I got started in the industry when I was in high school doing concrete on the weekends. Then I started doing carpentry trim-work and masonry. When I wasn’t in school I was working. After I graduated I went to college for business, construction engineering and technology and when I finished there I jumped right back into commercial remodeling

I HANDLE GENERAL MANAGEMENT
I focus on repair & remodel as well as commercial business projects. I estimate sales, oversee project management and in a lot of cases handle the billing.

I choose to work at StraightLine because they’re all straight-shooters. There’s no dishonesty and it’s just a real good group of great guys. I joined the sales department as another member of the team was starting to transition out and I had a real opportunity to get into a position where I could be productive in advancing the company as a whole. I could see the changes my efforts were making and I was doing impactful work. They showed me how much they valued me and I liked coming to work everyday. There’s also a lot of freedom. If our work is done and we’re being efficient then there’s more room to breathe, I can take the rest of the day off if I want.

WE DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY HERE
I’ve worked for enough people over the years to see that in most places there’s not a great relationship between management and the people actually doing the work. Those two parties generally make for a frustrating work environment and the work suffers because of low morale and office politics. Here all the guys are taken care of really well. They get paid on time every time. There’s no excuses. Our guys are our most important tool for our whole program. A lot of contractors view their team as replaceable. They say, ‘who cares if they’re not happy. We can always get more so whatever we’ll just find other people.’ The dynamic here is so much different. These are OUR guys.
THE BIG HIGHLIGHT
I think my best moment at work was landing a huge commercial project, which we had never done before - we were strictly residential. But it started us down a path of success working with different commercial clients as well as with homeowners. For me that was one of my biggest moments and it really changed the path of StraightLine after that.

The focus is always, how can we all be better team players.
Overall that’s the biggest thing for us, honesty and integrity for ourselves, for each other and for our customers. The big picture here is that it’s a true team culture and everybody wins together. It’s not like our guys are struggling to make ends meet while we’re out buying helicopters, we actually care about each other and that goes all the way around. That respect also extends to every customer, which doesn’t always happen with other contractors.
OUTSIDE OF WORK
Outside of work I really like to snowmobile and spend a lot of time with my family. All the things I used to enjoy doing: racing dirt-bikes snowmobiling, wake surfing and all that, I really like watching my kids do all that stuff.
